Welcome to Harbin! My grandmother lived here for 10 years of her life, right after the Russian White Army was defeated in the Civil War following the Bolshevik revolution. So we thought we'd cruise over to see how it is. Unfortunately, when we got to the Holiday Inn Harbin, we found that our room wasn't quite ready yet...

Main Street, Harbin. Oh, it has another name, but I can't remember/spell/pronounce it, so Main Street will have to do. It's the "old" street, the one that the Russians built when Harbin was a colony. They've refurbished it, and it's the center of action in the city.

So we're looking for St. Sophia's Cathedral. My uncle, Doc Turista as he is known to the locals, asks someone for directions. Amazingly, the communication gap is overcome and we find the way!

So here it is, St. Sophia's Cathedral. Nowadays, it's a muserum about the history and architecture of Harbin.
