Vener came all the way from Sterlitamak to Ufa (about two hours) to meet me. The first thing we did was take a little driving tour of downtown Ufa, before getting onto the highway to Sterlitamak. We stopped to check out this park with this statue, right on the edge of town. Of course, the statue is of someone of historical significance, but just who it might be escapes me at present...

Vener's wife Lena prepared a big welcoming dinner. "Do you like pilmeni?" they asked. Hey, who doesn't like pilmeni? After a while, their friends Vlad and Olia came over to, and the vodka was flowing...

So naturally we break the guitar out. As usually happens, someone else in the room is way better than I am, so I yield the guitar to Vlad and he rocks out some cool songs in Russian.

The next morning, Vener and I went to his office to do a little work on this projec that we're involved in. It turns out, Vener works for the Russian I.R.S.! Vener told me not to say anything in English when we were going by the guard. A secure environment, it seemd.
