Tucked away in the heart of Los Gatos, California, lies the captivating Vasona Lake County Park. An outdoor sanctuary spread over 152 acres, the park offers an immersive experience with its lush greenery, expansive lake, and a host of recreational activities that cater to all ages and interests.

The Journey to Vasona Lake County Park

Vasona Lake County Park is nestled at 333 Blossom Hill Rd, Los Gatos, CA 95032. The park’s entrance is located on Blossom Hill Road. For those traveling southbound via Highway 17, take the Lark Avenue exit and proceed east. Continue by turning right onto Los Gatos Boulevard and then, once more, onto Blossom Hill Road. The park also features walk-in entrances on Garden Hill Drive and University Avenue.

Activities at Vasona Lake County Park

The park is home to a sprawling 45-acre lawn perfect for informal activities such as frisbee tossing, softball, or soccer. The park also boasts several picnic areas that are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For larger groups, there are eight reservable areas situated at scenic locations throughout the park.

Boating and Fishing

The lake provides paddle boats and row boats for rental from early spring through early fall. For more information, visit Los Gatos Recreation. Furthermore, the lake is a hotspot for fishing, with abundant black bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill. Youth Science Institute

Oak Meadow Park and Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad

Adjacent to Vasona Lake County Park is Oak Meadow Park, a locale where visitors can enjoy a carousel ride, picnic, engage in informal sports, or revel in the playground. Hiking and Biking Trails

The Los Gatos Creek Trail, a favorite among hikers, runners, bicyclists, and skaters, begins at Lexington Reservoir and follows the Los Gatos Creek for nearly 9.5 miles. The trail passes through Los Gatos, Vasona Lake County Park, Los Gatos Creek County Park, and the cities of Campbell and San Jose with emergency call boxes stationed along the trail.

Located at the trail’s midpoint is Los Gatos Creek County Park, an 110-acre urban park that houses six percolation ponds. The park is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, with many types of waterfowl viewable around the ponds.

Agents of Discovery

Vasona Lake County Park is a popular choice for picnicking. To ensure everyone enjoys their time at the park, certain rules and regulations have been put in place:

  • Family picnic tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Reservations are recommended for groups larger than twenty.
  • Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis only.
  • Do not drive into picnic areas or onto lawns, paths, or landscaping.
  • Amplified music is prohibited without a permit.
