Black Friday Discounts on Bay Area Real Estate

This time of year, every screen you own is doubtlessly enticing you with a Black Friday or Cyber Monday Deal…or some too-good-to-be-true Holiday Sales event that you mustn’t miss out on.

But one thing you won’t see are REALTORs offering screaming Black Friday specials on real estate.

But wouldn’t it be nice if they did?

It turns out though that it is possible to get some hefty discounts on real estate for Black Friday. Or any day during the holiday season.

Because it’s that time of year. It’s the time of year when people with homes on the market really want to get them sold. A number of these homes have been on the market since spring, summer, and early fall. The sellers have doggedly kept them listed, waiting for the right buyer to come along.

It is the time of year when great deals can be had, on a case by case basis, if you are willing to negotiate with a seller to get the price down. People with homes on the market this time of year really want to get them sold sold, and in many cases, they’re willing to let them go below sticker price.

So you won’t see any billboards or radio spots announcing deep markdowns on real estate. You won’t get an email with a coupon code to unlock massive savings on select inventory.

But if you can find a home that’s been sitting on the market a while (30 days or more, but ideally over 60), and are willing to put in a little work, there are great deals to be had.

In this week’s YouTube video, I highlighted six recent sales throughout the Bay Area where the buyers enjoyed a significant discount off list price. And these examples are recent; all of them closed within the past week.

And as we get deeper into the year, in the dark days of December, I expect the opportunities will grow.

Until we hit mid-January, of course, when the market will roar back to life, starting with a lot of inventory that had been pulled off before the holidays, and those sellers won’t be looking to sell at a discount. They’ll be looking for a bidding war, or at least, a nice full price offer.

So the time for getting a discount on real estate in the Bay Area (or anywhere in North America, really) is now.
